Will of Joseph Greaves

Geo Town So Car Decr 6 1829

Knowing the shortness of life & certainty of death I make this my last Will & Testament In the Name of the Lord Amen

First I give and bequeath to my eldest Ann [?] Greaves, The following named Negros Mary Esau Cherry & their increase

Second_ I give & bequeath to my second son Jos. B. Greaves The Following Negros viz Big Heriot, Virgile, her child & Caswele

Third to my Daughter Charlotte I give & bequeath the Following Negros viz Little Heriot, Molsey, Nelly and their increase

Fourth_ To my son S. A. Decatur Greaves The Following Negros & their increase_ Larry & Ginny_

Fifth_ to my daughter A. D. Greaves viz the following named Negros & their increase_ Florence & Betty_

Sixth_ To W. H. Greaves I give and bequeath the following Negros & their increase, Lawson & Lienzer

The residue of my Negros I give to my beloved wife Mary B. Greaves & my daughter Mary Jane Greaves during their natural life_ then to be equally devided among my Children when of age_

I also give & bequeath to each of my Children when of age a Bed & furniture_ & also I give to my beloved Wife & daughter afforsaid all my Real estate during their life as afforsaid & then to return to my lawful heirs to be equally devided_

During the life time of my Wife & daughter afforsaid_ the Children are to remain with their ????? pleasure- And further should any of my Children be so unfortunate as to loose a Negro before they come of age they are to be replaced by my executors from the Residue of my Negros_ as afforsaid Eavin to my Wife & Daughter_ I also appoint my son John M Greaves, Jos. B Greaves, Francis Greaves & James I Richardson to be my lawful executors of this my last Will &Testament, in Testamony when of I now assign my hand & seal in presence of these_
