Will of Adam STRAIN

 

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, the fourteenth Day of February AnnoDomini 1761, I Adam Strain of Craven County in the province of South Carolina, being weak in Body, but of Good & perfect Memory, thanks be given unto God, therefore Calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body & Expecting the Disolution of my Body to be near at hand, do make & Ordain this my Last Will and Testament, And first of all I give & Recommend my Soul into the handsof Almighty God, who gave it, and for my Body I Recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like & Decent manner at the Discretion of my Exors Nothing Doughting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the Same again by the mighty power of God who and Touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this Life. Give and Bequeath and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form. IMPRIMIS I Give and Bequeath unto my Grandson James Cooper, a Negro wench Named phillis & to his Heirs for ever. Item I Give and Bequeath to my Grand Daughter Janet Cooper A Negro Girl
Named Betty and to her Heirs for Ever. ITEM I Give and Bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Margaret Cooper, a Negro Girl named Juno (after the Death of my wife) and to Heirs for ever. Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Grandson Hugh Strain Winter two Negroes viz Diana
& Edinborow Junior and to his Heirs for Ever. Likewise it is my will & desire, that if any of my said Grand Children shou'd happen to Die before they Arrive at the Age of maturity that their Share shall be Equally Divided amongst the Surviving party of my said Grandchildren. Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Son in Law James Cooper Ten Shillings current Money of South Carolina & to his Heirs & Assigns for Ever. Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Son in Law Hugh Winter Ten Shillings current money of the province aforesaid his Heirs & Assigns for Ever. And as for the plantation of two Hundred acres of Land I now live on I Give & Bequeath unto my Grandson James Cooper (after the Death of my wife) and to his Heirs and Assigns for
Ever. I Do Constitute Nominate & Appoint my Dear & Loving wife Margaret John Liviston Esqr Samuel Cooper Robt Winter Robert Pettycrew to be the sole Exors of this my Last Will and Testamt Revoking all other wills or Testaments by me made or at any time perfected.
